Abortion & Repentance

The Supreme Court on January 22,1973. “legislated” the legality of killing the unborn. It is estimated that since that time sixty-one million unborn babies have been dismembered, poisoned, and discarded like trash.  Tax dollars now subsidize this atrocity by supporting Planned Parenthood, whose clinics are notorious for performing abortions.  In contrast, Crisis Pregnancy Centers, which seek to protect the unborn, supported only by donations, in certain parts of this nation have been harassed by regulations that hinder their work.

God removed Judah as a nation because “of the innocent blood which he had shed” (2 Kings 24:4).  Manasseh, their king, had led the way in sacrificing children, usually the first-born, to the Canaanite fertility gods.  Their goal was more riches and pleasures for themselves!   Is this not closely related to the motives for eliminating the unborn?  God sent the Chaldean king, Nebuchadnezzar, to destroy Jerusalem and take thousands into exile.  What will he do to America?

God calls us to repent, with the promise to forgive: “Come now, let us reason together.  Though your sins be as scarlet they shall be white as snow.  Though they be red like crimson they shall be as wool” (Isaiah 1:18).  He gives this assurance with the death of His Son.  “Christ died for our sins.”  Sunday service time at Peace Lutheran Church is 9:00 a.m.

The Responsibilities of Father and Mother

The Word of God clearly states, “You fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).  The evidence of repentance is that “the hearts of the fathers will turn to the children.”  God adds, “Lest I come and smite the earth with a curse” (Malachi 4:6).   This truth is borne out by the number of those who had no functioning father who are now in prison.  Perceptive teachers will recognize that most of their problem pupils have no functioning father.  Men who only sire (like an animal) offspring but take no responsibility for them, are bringing God’s curse on themselves, their children, and the nation.

What about the mothers?  Mothers also teach.  Yet the wise mother, contrary to the feminist movement, will uphold her husband as primary teacher of the things of God. She should be sure he is capable of this before he begets a child with her.  Husband and wife do well to carefully study Ephesians 5:22-33 to provide a living illustration for their children of our relationship with Jesus Christ.  Sunday service time at Peace Lutheran Church is at 9:00 a.m.

Trust God to Guard

Because of the shooting which left 26 dead, some churches have a plan of armed defense against such aggression.   Christians need to remember our Lord’s rebuke of Peter when Peter sought to defend Him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish with the sword” (Matthew 26:52).  Another Scripture to remember is this: “Unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain” (Psalm 127:1).

Far more important than protecting ourselves, we should be concentrating on faithfully proclaiming and hearing the Word of God.  If for faithfully proclaiming God as Creator, humans in need of humble repentance before Him, and our only hope and life is in His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ—if in doing this we are shot and killed, then we join with a great cloud of witnesses who have gone before us (Hebrews 12:1).  In the meantime we are invited to trust our God who not only “guards the city” but also His little congregations of believers.  Sunday service at Peace Lutheran Church is 9:00 a.m.
