The Living and Powerful Word

In Psalm 106 we hear a description of God’s Old Testament people: “But they mingled with the Gentiles, and learned their ways. They served their idols…they even sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, and shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan….Therefore the wrath of God was kindled against His people.” Christians have no choice. They too mingle with unbelievers, adulterers, and those who sacrifice their children (abortion) to idols. There is a powerful tug to conform to this culture. “We wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world” (Eph. 6). How can a Christian resist? How can parents give their children strength to resist?
God gives His Word. It is “living and powerful” (Heb.4:12). It is ultimately the armor of defense (Eph. 6) and our strength to stand firm in Christ. “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Col. 3:16). Fathers, lead your children daily by reading to them God’s Word. It is like building a house upon a rock. That house will stand when the storms beat against it (Matt. 7).
