Evolution – It’s Everywhere

In spite of the incessant propaganda for evolution beamed at the American people via government schools, the nation park system, public radio, National Geographic, etc., more than half the people polled still cannot believe that something so complex as life should come into existence by itself.

So you are one of those who reject the evolutionary theory. Marvin Orlasky (July 2, 2011 issue of WORLD MAGAZINE) rightly reminds you that the world in which you live is immersed with this theory. POLITICS: “Political constitutions must be Darwinian in structure and practice.” ECONOMICS: Karl Marx saw evolution as the support of socialism. SEX: Implied animal origins eliminates marriage and promotes casual sex. ABORTION: “The fetus has not been shown to be nearer to the human being than is the unborn ape.” INFANTICIDE: “Darwin’s theory undermined the foundations of the entire Western way of thinking about our place in the universe.” THE CHRISTIAN FAITH: Not just that sin is eliminated , removing the need for a Savior from sin, but evolution would relegate the creation account, the fall and every miracle into the category of myth, and change morals to fit man’s sinful ways. Even your church may not present a world view untainted by the theory of evolution.

THE Creator

Karl Marx, the father of Bolshevism/Communism/Socialism, dedicated his book, “Das Kapital”, to Charles Darwin. Evolutionary theory also undergirded Hitler’s view of Aryan superiority and “might makes right,” the logical conclusion of the “survival of the fittest.” Both international socialism and national socialism in their efforts to hasten evolutionary progress were responsible for the untimely death of millions under the 3rd Reich and the Soviet Union.

Yet despite the evolutionary philosophy bringing forth indescribable misery upon half the world, our tax dollars are funding this propaganda in the government schools, the national park system, public radio, and nearly in every direction one turns, as though the theory of evolution were fact. With more than religious zeal, “Intelligent Design”, “Creation Science”, and the Biblical account of creation is rejected and ridiculed. Should we be surprised to observe a decline in morals, a rejection of God’s order for marriage, a devaluing of human life? Need we opine that our prison systems are bulging with people who simply lived out the evolutionary idea, and now must be “re-formed” according to the government’s prescription?

Intelligent people will listen when God asks Job, “Were you there when I created the world?” (Job 38). If you were not there than don’t call your theories science. Since none of us were there, we do well to humbly bow to the Creator who was there, and revealed for all humanity how He did it (Genesis 1).

The Trinity

Within the Divine Service the Church repeats, “Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.” She is directed to “Baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). The blessing of God is invoked at the beginning of the service, “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” As early as the fifth century after Christ the Church declared, “Whoever desires to be saved must above all, hold to the catholic faith…and the catholic faith is this, that we worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity….” (Athanasian Creed).

Not only does the doctrine of the Trinity distinguish the God whom Christians worship from all other gods, it affirms that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is true God “who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary” (Nicene Creed from the 3rd Century).

We did not make ourselves. God made us and all creatures. We cannot save ourselves from the curse and bondage of sin. God himself in the person of Christ satisfied His justice by His death on the cross. We cannot of our own reason or strength believe in Christ for salvation. The Holy Spirit calls us to faith through the message of Christ. Not to ourselves, but to God be the glory. All people are invited to join in the refrain, “Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.”

Divine Service time at Peace Lutheran Church is 10:00 a.m. Sunday.

The Path of Faith

Are people persuaded to become Christians by eloquent preachers? Do people really make their own decision to become a Christian? Or is it the magnetic tug of emotions generated in a congregation that moves a person to go forward and receive Christ? Listen to the Scripture for the correct answer.

“You were DEAD in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1).
“The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him” (1 Cor. 2:14).
Jesus said, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him” (John 6:44).
“No one can say Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit” (1 Cor. 12:2).

The great missionary Paul declared, “My speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom” (1 Cor 2:4). When Peter simply accused the Pentecost crowd of crucifying their Christ, whom God raised from the dead, they were moved to ask, “Men and brethren, what shall we do? (Acts 2). At Peter’s direction three thousand repented and were baptized. The Holy Spirit moves people to believe in Christ, not by human persuasion nor through personal decision, but “Faith comes through hearing…the Word of God” (Romans 10:17).

Unity in Christ

UNITY. This is what all Christians have as believers in Christ. They are part of His one body. They together are His bride for whom He gave Himself and whom He cleansed with “the washing of the water through the Word” (Ephesians 5). They are the one holy Christian Church. The Holy Spirit creates this unity as the Gospel of Christ is proclaimed and He joins us to Christ in Baptism. (Romans 10:17; Romans 6:4,5; 1 Cor. 12:13).

CONCORD. This is when people confess all the articles of the Gospel as drawn from the Holy Scriptures. Christians are urged to “speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you” (1 Cor. 1:10). Concord is possible only when people place human reasoning under the authority of the Word of God. Because of the work of Satan and our sinful nature which rebels against the Word of God, to achieve concord will always be a struggle.

HARMONY. This is when Christians get along peaceably together with other Christians. Where there is no Concord, harmony is impossible. But even when there is Concord, harmony within a Christian congregation is elusive because of the sinful nature of people. People say things to hurt others, hold grudges, fail to forgive.

Come to Peace Lutheran Church where we can rejoice in our UNITY in Christ, and where, as we study God’s Word, the Holy Spirit enables us to achieve CONCORD and live in HARMONY. Sunday service time is 10::00 a.m.

A Spiritual Mine Field

Life for the Christian, especially the young Christian, is a spiritual mine field where just one misstep will maim or destroy. There was a time when parents could exercise a degree of control to protect their offspring from these destructive forces. The advent of radio and TV brought morals and beliefs contrary to the family right into the home. Now we have the internet and the cell phone to further alienate one from the family and those who are family through faith in Christ Jesus. Need we wonder that so many youth engage in sexual relations apart from marriage? Should we consider it strange that many marry and divorce in a short time? Should we be surprised that a greater percentage have nothing more to do with the church as they enter adulthood?

We will not turn back the clock. While it is wise for parents to exercise control in the use of all the electronic gadgets, we are not going to get rid of them. Our hope is in what God promises, “My Word will not return void” (Isaiah 55). We are admonished, “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly” (Col. 3:15). We are assured, “The Word of God is living and powerful” (Hebrews 4:12). We are promised that God’s Word “is mighty in God for pulling down strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:4). It is the armor of God which we are admonished to put on “that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil…that you may be able to stand in the evil day” (Eph. 6:11, 13). With such promises and encouragements shouldn’t Christian parents resolve, “We will spend at least ten minutes a day reading and discussing the Word of God with our children gathered around us?” Don’t wait until you look back and say, “Where did we go wrong?”
