Whom Shall I Fear?

God had said to Adam, “In the day you eat of the tree of which I said, ‘You shall not eat thereof!’ you shall surely die.” He disobeyed and became afraid. (Genesis 3). Our fears arise from the sinful nature we inherited from Adam and the disobedience that flows out of that nature:”Evil thoughts, murder, sexual sins, thefts, lies, mockery of God and His Word” (Matt. 15:19). “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).

Death, physical and eternal, underlies all our fears.

But the Psalmist says, “The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1). When Jesus Christ was born, and when He was raised from the dead, the angels declared, “Do not be afraid!” (Luke 2:10; Matt. 28:5). Whom shall I fear? Of what shall I be afraid?

Collapsing economy? Loss of job? Old age? Illness? Jesus Christ is my light and my salvation. He reconciled me to the Father by His death on the cross. He defeated death by rising on the third day to life. Every believer in Christ can say, “The Lord is my light and my salvation.”

Acknowledge the Creator

Ken Ham, noted creationist, reminds us in an article of what the atheistic German philosopher, Nietzsche, said over a 100 years ago:

“When one gives up Christian belief in God, one thereby deprives oneself of the right to Christian morality.” In this instance the atheist is correct. If there is no Creator, no absolute authority, to define right and wrong, there is no basis for morality.

The government required teaching of evolution, allowing no challenge to the theory, is a mandate to teach atheism. Little wonder that despite the church’s best effort teens are “sexually active”, cheating has become a way of life, CEO’s bankrupt their companies for personal gain, spending becomes rife to the point of bankruptcy. As evolution rules out the God to Whom we are accountable, love will grow cold and people will behave like the animals evolution makes them out to be. As evolution takes hold there will be a collapse of morality, and freedom, along with the economy. Animals are put in pens.

Come to Peace Lutheran Church, 1506 E. 42nd St., Texarkana, Arkansas, where evolution is openly rejected and the Creator is acknowledged from Scripture (Genesis 1) and the observable facts of life (Romans 1:20).

Sunday service time is 10:00 a.m. Lenten Service is Wednesday 7:00 p.m.

Evolutionary Thought

Citizens of the USA for the first 90 years lived inconsistently with the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths…that all men (people) are created equal.” The fathers of this country made slaves of their black brothers despite the Biblical teaching, “God has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth” (Acts 17:26).

People before Charles Darwin provided biological arguments for racism.
But “They increased by orders of magnitude following the acceptance of the evolutionary theory” (Stephen J. Gould, evolutionist). Hitler resolved to eliminate those who might impede the evolutionary progress of what he considered the superior Aryan race. Karl Marx found support in Darwin for his economic theories and later rationale for his disciples to liquidate (murder) millions to provide the economic paradise. Yet Darwin is praised as a hero, his theory regarded as infallible, and our government with religious zeal foists this unproven, racist theory upon our children. May God have mercy!.

Come to Peace Lutheran Church, 1506 E. 42nd St., Texarkana, Arkansas, where God is proclaimed to be the Creator and without exception Christ died for all. Sunday service time is 10:00 a.m. Lenten Services on Wednesday 7:00 p.m.

Messages in The President’s Message

In the President’s address to congress and the nation he could have pointed out how sin sabotages the economy. GREED leads people to mortgage houses they cannot afford. DISHONESTY leads bankers to loan money to people they know cannot pay it back. Failed CEOs abscond (STEAL) with much of the “bail out” money with bonuses they give themselves. As to health care, SEXUAL PROMISCUITY before and after marriage leads to sexually transmitted diseases, broken homes, unwanted and insecure children; ABORTION and its aftermath of mental and physical anguish; UNLOVINGLY loading the elderly with contradictory drug producing delirious side effects; the SENSUALITY of seeking pleasure through drugs and alcohol–SIN escalates the costs of medical insurance and sickness care.

A postmodern culture which has no absolutes, no right or wrong, must eventually drown in its own moral filth. The ancient Greeks and Romans did!

The Biblical message “Repent!” is especially appropriate for our time.
We may weep that our savings have been cut in half or that we lost our jobs. We ought to weep, as did Peter (Matt. 27:75), because we have sinned.

Come to Peace Lutheran Church, 1506 E. 42nd St., Texarkana, Arkansas, where the penitent sinner hears the comforting message, “Your sins are forgiven” (Matt. 9:2). Sunday Service Time is 10:00 a.m. Lenten Services are Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.
